Expedition Club & Supply
We’re an outdoor hobby store and adventure club featuring gear and knowledge for photography, astronomy, birding, rockhounding, geocaching, foraging, and more. Our goal is to help people maximize their outdoor experiences by revealing the stories of nature that surround us. Our membership and services will help people discover new places, or to see old ones in a new way.
Our main membership will offer seasonal self-guided expeditions around Central Oregon to see new things, try out new skills, or even tackle themed scavenger hunts with embedded puzzles. Every detail is worked out to save time and make the most of your outdoor experience; including driving directions, what to expect, and the rules of the destination so you can go outdoors safely and without hassle. We will also host regular member events, like star parties, bird walks, author receptions, and more.
The Map Room level membership includes all of the above and access to our private club downtown - full of floor to ceiling bookshelves, maps, supplies, surprises, and beverages. Bring a friend and plan your next adventure, talk to local experts, or enjoy a new book. This space easily expands for events, including workshops. May 2023 Update: The Map Room is ready for visitors! Come by to learn more and take a tour. New spring items in stock now, with rockhounding, geocaching, and new photography gear coming soon. New telescopes and astrophotography trackers in stock. Get ready for galaxy season!
November 2021 Update: We’re open, and once again stocked up on telescopes for the holidays! We have all kinds of gifts for your favorite explorers of all ages. We stocked up on telescopes during the epic supply chain shortages of 2021 and can help you pick the right one. We also have a curated selection of binoculars and spotting scopes for bird and wildlife watchers, plus maps, books, and all kinds of smart accessories and gear.
May 2021 Update: We’re still here and have been making rent waiting until things improved. Our grand opening will now be in this JUNE, details TBA. We have regular hours again, but still a bit limited with staff. Please see the job section above for information about our fellows program and we look forward to launching the business finally as we hoped, for real, this summer.
November 2020 Update: We planned to open last March, right as the shutdown began. Since then, we’ve reimagined the layout to allow for more personal space, added air purifiers, plexiglass, and rearranged the business plan a few dozen times. Just we planned to tentatively open in July, our founder actually got COVID. She’s all better now and we are back on track. During the COVID-19 closures this holiday season, we’re open by appointment for 1-2 shoppers at a time. Our current inventory includes telescopes, binoculars, adventure gear, gift cards and a curated selection of interesting books and guides.
